Lois Hester Blackburn, who taught PE, tennis,
swimming, synchronized swimming, hockey and
basketball from approximately 1960 through
1969. She left Fairfax Hall to teach at Mary
Baldwin College where she led the tennis team
to national championships. She published two
books, one of which is the foundation for, and
still used by the USTA on "how to" conduct tennis
tournaments. She was inducted into the
International Tennis Collegiate Hall of Fame in
1997, six months after her death.
